The Last Lung of the World
In 2017, the world’s largest peatland was discovered in the Congo. Formed approximately 10,000 years ago, it contains some 30 billion tons of carbon. It is also an ecological time bomb should its fragile balance be disrupted by human activity. Representatives from environmental organizations and teachers are raising awareness among the local population about the importance of this ecosystem.
